Stone And District Swimming Club
After 22 years of being a volunteer teacher for the Stone and District Swimming Club, Julie is leaving us. The staff and children will miss her. During her time with the club she has taught hundreds of children to be safe, happy and confident in the pool. Her joyful approach to swim teaching has enthused several generations of members to become skilful and proficient swimmers.
We wish Julie all the best, from all past and present members of the club.
Duncan Goodhew’s, Britains Olympic medalist and swimming Ambassador for the UK visit in 2012 to our Club was a MASSIVE
success! He was absolutely superb, all of the Club members from the beginners up to the Adults enjoyed the visit. His passion and enthusiasm is something that will keep the club buzzing for many weeks and months to come.
He really is a great Ambassador for British Swimming. He passed on several tips for our swimmers to improve their strokes and also offered advice to the teachers. It was a thrill for everyone to wear his Olympic Gold medal and carry his Olympic torch.
He never missed signing one autograph or one picture; in fact one of our local newspapers said he had photographed many people but never come across someone who was so natural and easy to work with.
We also presented him with a cheque for £100 raised by Club members during our recent distance swims. This will go to the Marie Curie cancer charity which was one of the main beneficiaries of the Swimathon event in March that Duncan supports with British Swimming.
Also have a look at ‘A Little Bit of Stone’s’ website for an excellent report
Huge thanks to Mark Thain for arranging the visit via British Gas.
Olympic legend Duncan Goodhew wows us all !
An inspirational teacher says farewell
Further congratulations go to one of our volunteers, Rob Stevenson who was nominated for the Stafford Borough Sports Awards ‘Special Contribution to Sport’ category. This was in recognition of his outstanding service to SADSC – he has been a member for over 39 years! Duncan Goodhew presented him with a special award to mark his fantastic achievement.

Some good news....
We have recently received a cheque for £500 from Stone Town Council as part of their Community Awards Scheme. The money will go towards the costs of moving to the new pool at Westbridge Park and teacher training. Other great news is that Ian Hall and Philippa Boote, have recently qualified as Swim England, Level 1, Swim Teaching Assistants. Well done to you both and congratulations.
